Continuing to fine tune the reflections that they started during the first week of school. The end result will be a well written five paragraph essay...
The introduction should give me some insight into the background of the student. This information should include information about the student's interests outside of school and family. It should explain why the student is special. I usually summarize this by telling students that they must answer the question, "Who are you?"
The body of the paper should contain three paragraphs written in the "Step Up" format (Green, Yellow, Red). The content of each paragraph should be Social Studies related. Two of the paragraphs should be about content from this year. The other paragraph should reflect on information from sixth or seventh grade. The body paragraphs need to explain why it is important to have learned about specific standard based information. I usually summarize this by telling students that they must explain, "What have you learned?"
Finally, the conclusion should explain the student's goals. We spent a couple of classes during our Second Step unit discussing goals. Students will use this paragraph to create a more thorough explanation to the question "Where are you going?"
